These fumes can have serious consequences for workers' health and affect company productivity. A fume extraction system can therefore make a difference, improving not only safety but also the attractiveness of the workshop in the eyes of new talent. Find out more in today's article! ## Why install a fume extraction system in your company In the industrial environment, welding is one of the most common activities, but also one of the riskiest for workers' health. During the welding process, in fact, several harmful fumes are released into the work environment which, if not properly treated, can cause serious problems. [Industrial extraction systems](https://blog.worky-italy.com/en-gb/industry/industrial-extraction-systems-tips-making-right-choicehslangen-gb?hsLang=en-gb) are an essential solution for ensuring healthy working environments and protecting the health of operators, as well as improving the overall quality of the workshop. ### [![CTA C2 - orizzontale - EN - gennaio 2025](https://hubspot-no-cache-eu1-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/cta/default/26256811/interactive-102021528255.png)](https://blog.worky-italy.com/hs/cta/wi/redirect?encryptedPayload=AVxigLLzdFnciV%2FyYPrBlj96d5DyIFcCu4AUyP50ilCrIXhy93d%2BoWEC%2Be1Am78JFU5ByjKgLcx87O%2FeTAcuIg0OXbaE9gh5IY4Lf6XXHyeFnmAJFZpJazDbQf4YSSXXidQLwYjv9qG%2F3YYY2qT7M4ugSC1oP0g1CGvUNf7VnsC9TmiEx5lmo7Ien2tbyc5awHmU3r%2F3I83qzbxub2tMt%2FQyA3d4MIJ%2BlGQ%2FqMs%2BT0%2BZ2w%3D%3D&webInteractiveContentId=102021528255&portalId=26256811&hsLang=en-gb) But what dangers do welding fumes entail? Welding fumes consist of a combination of microscopic particles and gases generated during the metal smelting process, which can contain highly harmful chemicals. Constant exposure to these substances, especially in the absence of adequate safety measures, can cause respiratory problems, eye and skin irritation, and even more serious illnesses. For this very reason, many countries have introduced strict guidelines and regulations concerning air quality in the workplace. For example, in Europe, [Directive 2004/37/EC](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/it/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A32004L0037) has set strict limits on exposure to carcinogens and mutagens, requiring preventive measures to be taken to limit health risks for workers. ### Welding fume extraction system: an essential investment for safety The adoption of fume extraction systems is an effective solution to reduce pollution in workshops. Extractors are designed to extract welding fumes directly at the source, before they are dispersed into the working environment. This system reduces the concentration of hazardous substances in the air, thus protecting personnel. There are different [types of extractors](https://blog.worky-italy.com/en-gb/industry/choose-welding-fume-extraction-system-for-industry?hsLang=en-gb), including: - **Stationary extractors**: ideal for workshops with stable workstations, where the welding process always takes place in the same place. - **Mobile extractors**: more versatile, they can be moved around the workshop according to operational needs. These systems not only help to maintain a healthy environment, but also comply with current occupational safety regulations, reducing the risk of sanctions from regulatory bodies and protecting the company's reputation. ![fume extractor system](https://blog.worky-italy.com/hs-fs/hubfs/WORKY/SMOBIPLUS%20(1).jpg?width=500&height=375&name=SMOBIPLUS%20(1).jpg) #### Not only that: a clean working environment attracts new talent The [quality of the working environment](https://blog.worky-italy.com/en-gb/industry/fumes-extraction-system-combining-design-and-functionality?hsLang=en-gb) has a direct impact not only on the health of employees, but also on a company's ability to attract new talent. In an increasingly competitive job market, especially for skilled workers such as welders, a workshop that invests in safety and cleanliness stands out positively in the eyes of potential candidates. A safe working environment is perceived as a sign of care and respect for employees. This can make all the difference when it comes to retaining existing employees and attracting new ones, especially in a sector like industry. New generations of workers, in particular, are increasingly sensitive to issues such as health and [well-being in the workplace](https://blog.worky-italy.com/en-gb/industry/welding-fumes-extraction-systems-data-well-being?hsLang=en-gb). Showing a workshop equipped with modern fume extraction system not only demonstrates compliance with safety regulations, but also reflects a commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. ### The importance of security in the long term Investing in a fume extraction system is not just a matter of regulatory compliance or attracting new talent, it is a strategic choice that affects the productivity and overall well-being of the company. A safe working environment reduces the risk of occupational illnesses and accidents and improves productivity. In addition, a [clean and safe](https://blog.worky-italy.com/en-gb/industry/welding-fumes-extraction-technologies-safety?hsLang=en-gb) working environment reduces wear and tear on equipment and improves product quality. --- A clean and safe workshop is ultimately the best calling card for a company aiming for long-term growth.
